The downtown Chicago skyline.

Oh yeah…gotta love the Chicago trains.

The apartment that I that Lawndale Community Church had for me to stay in. It was way too big for just one person.

My lil’ room.

A shot of Ogden St. in Lawndale.

Another picture of Ogden St. This road passes through the Lawndale community and is the street where Lawndale Community Church has all of their facilities.

A picture from my apartment.

This is very true…

The Franciscan Outreach Association shelter on the west side of Chicago. My friend Paul Rollet volunteers there, so I got to help out one night.

Around 200 homeless men and women stay in the shelter each night.

Dr. David Fitch, me, and Dr. Robert Price. I got to spend some time at Northern Seminary and sit in on both their classes.

Chicago has really tall buildings.

Underneath one of the trains.

Again, big…

The Chicago Sun-Times building can be seen in the distance.

Around noon in downtown Chicago.

The beautiful Chicago River runs through the middle of downtown.

Tegan Jackson and me. Tegan goes to Moody Bible College in downtown Chicago. It was good to hang with her.

This is the health center that the church created. They serve about 100,000 patients each year from around the Lawndale Community.

Another shot of the health center. It’s a massive building.

The gym inside the health center. The church currently holds their Sunday services inside the gym. It’s also used for many other activities during the week.

Darryl Saffore and me. Darryl is the pastoral intern at the church. We got to spend a lot of time together in Lawndale.

The Hope House Ministry building. Hope House is a holistic ministry for men who are addicted to drugs or alcohol. About 50 men are currently in this program.

Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria in Lawndale. This is a well-known pizza chain in Chicago that partnered with Lawndale Community Church to build this location in Lawndale. Men who are a part of Hope House work at the pizzeria.

Two of the buildings that the church has bought, renovated, and now using to provide services to the community. The Youth Center and The Dental/Eye Clinic.

The same story for this building as well. It’s the Perkins Learning Center that’s used for tutoring, computer sessions, and other activities.

The soon-to-be home of The Firehouse Community Arts Center. Check out this vision and story.

Inside the old firehouse.

This is Lawndale Community Church’s main sanctuary. It’s also where the House Hip Hop Church meets twice a month.

Phil Jackson and me. Phil is the pastor of the Hip Hop Church and the Firehouse Community Arts Center. I got to spend a lot of time with Phil.

Kyle…you should listen to this guy’s message.

My new friend Paul Rollet and me. Paul is a student at Northern Seminary and works at the Franciscan shelter. He’s got a tender spirit and passion for the poor in the West Chicago community.
Are you sure Darryl isn’t a twin of Chris Simmons? The firehouse idea is GREAT!! What a wonderful way to preserve an historic building. I’m also impressed with the health care facility. Check in later. MOM
